Australian financial journalist John Kelly has been in the chocolate cake industry for a long time.
“I grew up in the dairy industry and when I was in high school I worked in the cheese factory,” he said.
“As I got older, I started working in the cake industry.”
So why chocolate cake?
“I’m not a chocolate cake person, I like cakes,” he laughed.
“So for me, chocolate cake is a way to take cake to a whole new level.”
The idea of chocolate cake has been around for centuries.
“I think the word chocolate is derived from the word mocha, the colour,” Mr Kelly said.
The name is not a secret, though.
“You can find chocolate bars in the shops, but there’s always something that’s really special about chocolate.”
What’s a chocolate lava?
“You can just put the chocolate in a pan, which is really easy, and melt it down, and it has this amazing, crunchy, sweet, gooey texture,” Mr Kelley said.
Mr Kelly has also made a variety of cakes for his business, but his favorite is his chocolate cake recipe.
“We like to do it all in a chocolate, and then we melt it in a cake pan,” he explained.
“It’s really delicious, so it’s my favourite chocolate cake.”
Mr Kelly said the chocolate lava is “perfect for a holiday, or when you want something a little different”.
“It comes out of the oven pretty easily, it doesn’t burn you up,” he joked.
“And you don’t have to worry about the colour.”
“You don’t need a lot of ingredients.”
