The answer depends on who you ask, but if you ask the producers of the popular British dessert known as carrot cake you’d think they’re about to find out for sure.
The ABC’s Lateline program recently asked the BBC’s Food for Thought show, which produces a new TV show called the Baked Carrot Cake, which is hosted by BBC chef Nick Frost, and the makers of Victoria Cakes, a British dessert which has become one of the most-watched food shows in the country, to try to decide which is the best.
“You’ve got a couple of the more famous brands and you’ve got some of the lesser known brands and the whole world is fascinated by carrot cake,” Frost told the ABC.
And what’s the flavour? “
It’s just the texture.
And what’s the flavour?
Victoria Cakes is based in Newcastle and was launched by Nick Frost in 2011. “
I’ve got to say, I don’t think anyone would want to eat a carrot cake with chocolate chips.”

It is simply a perfect combination of sweetness and crunch.”
The BBC’s Nick Frost and Victoria Cakers producer Sarah Kostov say the best part of Victoria cakes is the combination of crunch and sweetness.

“The carrot cake that Nick Frost makes is one of those that is a very simple recipe,” she said.
She said that the taste of Victoria’s recipe is “very distinctive”.
“I think it’s because they’ve been making it for so long that the carrot cake tastes really unique to Victoria, so that’s what’s important,” she explained.
“It’s very different from what we’ve done before.”
She added that Victoria’s carrot cake is not only very tasty but also very rich.
“You can definitely taste the difference between the real carrot cake and the one that Nick has made.
It’s definitely more of a rich cake than a plain one.”
Sarah Kostova says the most important ingredient in Victoria Caves recipe is butter.

Sarah said that being an Australian is about having a sense of identity and belonging.
“I feel Australian because of where I come from,” she told ABC Radio Melbourne.
“I don’t just feel like an Australian.
I feel like a part of Australia.”
“Australia is a great place to live, to live and work.
Australia is also a place where we can make a difference.
That’s why we’re trying to make a change in the world.”
And with Victoria Cays popularity on the rise, Nick and Sarah are hoping that the Australian appetite for their products will continue to grow.
